The 2022/23 Premier League season was a good one for Manchester United. Despite not having fought for the Premier League title, the Red Devils have remained in the top five of the standings and are close to confirming their participation in the Champions League.
The team from Manchester has only two games left to play, the first one being a pending match against Chelsea that was scheduled to be played during matchday 32 and the last one against Fulham on matchday 38.
For these games, the Red Devils will have some absentees, and here are some of the players who will be missing the upcoming games. Without further ado, JefeBet will tell you who will be the players that coach Erik ten Hag will not be able to count on.
Manchester United Suspended and Injured Players for the Week of May 22-28 in the Premier League
At this stage of the season, it is normal that physical problems begin to appear in players due to the wear and tear of European competitions. Manchester United has not been the exception to the rule and have some players in doubt and others ruled out.
In doubt
Substitute goalkeeper Tom Heaton is in doubt for Manchester’s final Premier League games after suffering an ankle injury since March and has been unable to join the rest of the squad. He was originally scheduled for mid-April, but the estimated time was extended and so far it is not known if he will appear on the bench for either of these two games.
Marcus Rashford suffered a muscle injury in the match against Everton on April 8 and is not yet fully healthy enough to return to the pitch. The 25-year-old striker has been training, but it is not yet known if he will make a comeback against Chelsea.
Discarded
Four players will not be available for the remainder of the Premier League season and the rest of the competitions in which Manchester United still participates.
- Phil Jones has had an unfortunate spell at United due to numerous injuries. During the last three seasons he has only been able to play five games, and everything seems to indicate that his time playing for the Red Devils will soon come to an end. The central defender suffered a knee injury at the end of March and is ruled out until the beginning of June. However, the team has already announced that it will no longer count on him for next season.
- Marcel Sabitzer was ruled out of the match against Bournemouth due to a knee injury. This injury will cause the Austrian to miss the two remaining Premier League games, as well as the FA Cup final. Thus, his time with the Red Devils is over as he will have to return to Bayern Munich as his loan period will expire at the end of the campaign. The estimated recovery time indicates that he could be back on the court by mid-June.
- Midfielder Donny van de Beek injured his knee in January and has been out ever since. It was announced early on that the player from the Netherlands would miss the rest of the season, and so it has been. The former Ajax midfielder continues to undergo rehabilitation and is expected to be ready by June.
- Argentina’s Lisandro Martínez, who was a world champion in Qatar 2022, suffered a fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot last April and underwent surgery. The Albiceleste player is not expected to return for the remainder of this campaign.
Sanctioned
Mason Greenwood was removed from the squad following the rape allegation, and although the charges were removed last March, he was not reinstated and will continue to watch the rest of the season from the sidelines. Manchester United have no other suspended or cautioned players at this time.
