Group E Predictions, Odds, and Betting Preview for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar
The two Europeans are undoubtedly the main contenders in this group, although history shows that nothing should be taken for granted in a World Cup. At Russia 2018, Costa Rica overcame monsters such as England, Italy and Uruguay. And Japan is always a difficult obstacle for anyone.

- Odds to win the group: -115
- Odds to qualify for the round of 16: -750
Since their 2010 World Cup triumph in South Africa, after defeating the Netherlands in the final with Luis Aragonés as coach, the Spanish national team has consolidated an identity that almost no other team in the world has achieved. And although they have already faced the stage of generational change, they arrive in Qatar in excellent shape, despite having had a hard-fought qualifying round, in which they ended up beating Sweden in the last match.

- How did they get to the World Cup: CONCACAF/AFC playoff winner

It was a long road for Costa Rica to reach Qatar 2022. Despite a good qualifying season in CONCACAF, where they won 7 out of 14 games, they had to play the playoffs, tied on goal difference with the United States. In the decisive match, they beat New Zealand 1-0 with a goal by Joel Campbell, thus securing their ticket to the World Cup.
Of the five World Cups in which it participated, its best performance was in Brazil 2014, where it came first in a true group of death, ahead of Uruguay, Italy and England, and reached the quarterfinals, where it lost to the Netherlands on penalties. The current squad’s leader is the great goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
Germany
- FIFA Ranking Position: 11
- How did they get to the World Cup: 1st in Group J [UEFA Qualifiers]
- Previous World Cup participations: 19
- Odds to win the group: +115
- Odds to qualify for the round of 16: -650
Germany is the great national team that nobody wants to cross paths with in a World Cup, as they have won four of the eight finals they have played in. It is coming into this World Cup after a disappointing Russia 2018, in which it failed to make it past the first round. But their present is different: they won the qualifying round from start to finish, with 9 wins out of 10 matches.
With Hansi Flick at the helm, they have suffered two offensive blows in the run-up to the World Cup, since Timo Werner and Lukas Nmecha will miss the tournament due to injuries. However, it is always a candidate to go for everything.
Japan
- FIFA Ranking Position: 24
- How did you they to the World Cup: 2nd. Group B [AFC Qualifiers]
- Previous World Cup participations: 6
- Odds to win the group: +1000
- Odds to qualify for the round of 16: +300
The 1998 World Cup in France was its first participation historically, and since then it has always been able to qualify. The Asian team has made great progress, although it is still not enough to be a protagonist in the big events. At Russia 2018 they reached the round of 16, where they were eliminated by Belgium.
They had a good qualifying campaign, winning 7 out of 10 games and finishing second, one point behind Saudi Arabia.
Hajime Moriyasu was the first coach to confirm the list of 26 players who will go to Qatar, with several players from Europe’s top leagues, including Takumi Minamino (AS Monaco), Kaoru Mitoma (Brighton), Takefusa Kubo (Real Sociedad) and Maya Yoshida (Schalke 04), among others.
