El Clásico of Spanish League ended with a 4-0 victory for FC Barcelona, which was a humiliation for Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
When you look at the scoreboard you know that the outstanding players of the night belong to the Catalan club, however there was also a player from the Merengue team that enters this top 5 of those who played the best in this edition of El Clásico.
1.- Pierre Emerick Aubameyang
The Gabon striker gave a great display of soccer on Sunday night at the Santiago Bernabeu, scoring two goals and providing an assist. He opened the scoring in the 29th minute of the first half. He kept trying and it was not until two minutes into the second half that he assisted teammate Ferran Torres to make it 0-3. In the 51st minute, he scored again, his second goal of the night.
2.- Marc-André Ter Stegen
Ter Stegen was key to Barcelona’s victory. It was known that the match would have opportunities for both teams and so it was, but the German goalkeeper was able to do his job well and prevented the opponent’s attacks, highlighting two saves he made in the first half when the score was still 0-0.
3.- Ronald Araújo
The 23-year-old Uruguayan not only played his part in FC Barcelona’s defense, but also as a striker. He prevented all of Vinicius’ attempts and also scored a goal of his own in the first half to put the score at 0-2 in favor of the visitors. He took advantage of his great aerial play and headed the ball into the net. This is his fourth goal of the season.
4.- Ousmane Dembélé
Dembélé had been a target of criticism due to his multiple injuries that prevented him from being consistent in the lineup. In this match he could have been a starter and he did not waste the opportunity. He overflowed again and again, leaving Nacho Fernández in the way all the time. Although the striker was unable to score, he provided two assists for the Aubameyang and Araújo goals in the first half.
5.- Thibaut Courtois
It might be thought that putting Courtois among the highlights of El Clásico is a contradiction after the dramatic 0-4 scoreline against Real Madrid, but the Belgian goalkeeper’s work must be highlighted. Despite conceding those four goals, he ended up being the best player for the Merengue side as he prevented Aubameyang from scoring his hat-trick and Memphis Depay from getting on the scoreboard.
