The Spanish GP allowed us to see some improvements in the cars of the participating teams. Even some drivers were surprised to finish the race in an unexpected position, but, without a doubt, what stood out the most at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya were the changes that occurred in the championship.

If for some reason you missed the Spanish GP here we tell you 5 interesting aspects that were seen:

Red Bull’s 1-2 to Lead the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships

Red Bull Racing - Spanish GP

Red Bull ended 1-2 at the Spanish GP and there is no doubt that they have two great drivers. It was the Dutchman, Max Verstappen, who crossed the finish line first and waved the flag to the quarterfinals, but there is no doubt that the Mexican, Checo Pérez, is still of huge importance to the team.

Verstappen had problems with the DRS in the first part of the race, and it was difficult for him to overtake George Russell, who was in front of him. So the Mexican, who was behind and with a car in good condition, asked the team for the opportunity to overtake his partner and seek to overtake the Mercedes driver. Pérez asked for it, and he complied and, thus, became the leader of the race. But before finishing the laps, the team asked him to give up the position to his teammate, and he had no choice but to accept and finish in second place.

Thanks to that, Red Bull now leads the Constructors’ Championship with 195 points, while Max Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship with 110 points.

George Russell’s Achievements with Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton’s Revival

Mercedes' George Russell - Spanish GP

We all know that the #1 Mercedes driver is Lewis Hamilton, but the one who is currently doing better and better is George Russell. Once again everybody was in awe at his performance, this time he posed a threat to the World Champion, Max Verstappen.

He held on and defended his position against the Dutchman’s attacks, and although he was later overtaken by Checo Pérez, he managed to finish on the podium once again.

Hamilton finished fifth, but at least he looked better than he had in the previous two races.

Charles Leclerc from Ferrari Forced to Abandon the Race

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc - Spanish GP

We do not believe that Ferrari have slept peacefully after losing the leadership of both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship, much less after the car seemed to fly on the track and out of nowhere stopped working.

While Carlos Sainz returned to add points for the second consecutive race, Charles Leclerc suffered his first retirement of the campaign.

Leclerc is in second place in the Drivers’ Championship with 104 points, while Sainz is in fifth place with 65.

Aston Martin’s New Car

Aston Martin - Spanish GP

Aston Martin caused controversy by presenting its new single-seater, as it bears some resemblance to the Red Bull RB18.

It is not the first time that Lawrence Stroll’s team seems to borrow the design of another team. As in 2020, when the team was Racing Point, they brought out the RP20, which resembled the Mercedes car, and it became known as the “pink Mercedes”.

In terms of performance, things still haven’t improved, as neither Lance Stroll nor Sebastian Vettel were able to score points at the Spanish GP.

Valtteri Bottas’ Improvements with Alfa Romeo

Valtteri Bottas - Spanish GP

Valtteri Bottas is taking advantage of the opportunity that Alfa Romeo gave him and, little by little, he is adding points in the championship. Having been in the shadow of Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, the Finn is now showing the world his skills at a team that may not have the prestige of Mercedes, but apparently makes him happy and gives him confidence. Bottas finished sixth in the Spanish GP and is eighth in the Drivers’ Championship.
