The third seed of the Australian Open 2023, Stefanos Tsitsipas, played an easy first round match in which he did not have to work too hard. He beat Quentin Halys (French) in straight sets, and only the third set went to a tie-break. The match lasted exactly two hours.

The Greek had an impressive performance, launching 17 aces, with 64% of first serves in, and an 84% effectiveness with his first serves. This is one of Tsitsipas’ best weapons that undoubtedly left his opponent without many tools to defend himself. Even though Halys had 9 break chances, he could only convert 2, while Tsitsipas had 7 and converted 4.

He also hit 46 winners and had impressive speeds with both his first and second serves. The former had an average speed of 192 km/h and the latter of 160 km/h. Thus, the match was defined by 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (8).

Betting on Rinky Hijikata | +1000 Odds to Win

Now, Tsitsipas’ counterpart for the second round of the Australian Open 2023, Rinky Hijikata (Australian), had an alarming first round match that lasted 4 hours and 25 minutes against Yannik Hanfmann (German). Hijikata got into trouble, especially with his serve, and he was outplayed both statistically and in the game by the German.

However, even if this were true, he did not have such bad statistics: he had a 63% of good first serves with an effectiveness of 74% and hit 15 aces during the whole match. His problem lied in double faults (6) and in the effectiveness of the second serve (47%). Additionally, he won only 27% of his break points, as he was only able to convert 3 of the 11 opportunities he had against Hanfmann.

One of his weapons in this match were the points at the net, as he won 62% of them. Thus, the match was defined with a score of 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (7), 3-6. There is no doubt that since the previous match was so exhausting, Hijikata will be more tired than the Tsitsipas.

Tsitsipas vs Hijikata Prediction

By having such dissimilar first round matches with completely different demands, Stefanos Tsitsipas will be able to arrive more rested and focused for his second round clash. He is also a more experienced player who has reached the semifinals of the Australian Open three times. For this reason, in the Tsitsipas vs Hijikata duel, we think it will be the Greek who will advance to the next round.

Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas wins in straight sets.
