The New York Yankees currently have the best record in the entire MLB, and their roster just got even stronger after it was revealed that the franchise acquired an experienced MLB veteran to strengthen the infield area.
We’re talking about Matt Carpenter, who spent his entire Major League career playing for the St. Louis Cardinals before choosing to try free agency in 2021 after 10 years with the institution.
Until today, Carpenter hadn’t played in a single MLB game in 2022, and has spent his recent days playing Triple-A for Round Rock Express, an affiliate of the Texas Rangers, who signed him to a minor league contract in March. The player requested his release on May 19 after playing 21 games in Triple A, where he batted .275 with six home runs and 19 RBIs.
Now, the 36-year-old veteran will have the opportunity to prove that he is still capable of competing at the highest level, and he has been excited about this new challenge ahead of him.
If you want me to pack my bags and get on a plane, I will. I’m excited to put on a Yankees uniform and to be a part of the best team in baseball right now. I’m excited to be there, no matter what role I’m assigned.

The Yankees wasted no time and added Carpenter to the active roster ahead of Game 1 of the series, which began Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Carpenter took over as designated hitter in place of Aaron Hicks, who was unable to play due to some discomfort.
Will Matt Carpenter be a good acquisition for the New York Yankees?
From the start, the addition of a left-handed bat to the lineup is always a welcome addition, in order to have options. And that’s mostly what the Yankees need, as the team has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons and is currently without top players like Josh Donaldson and Giancarlo Stanton.
The arrival of Matt Carpenter will add depth to the roster as the Yankees look to win their first World Series in more than ten years. Manager Aaron Boone mentioned that he is “excited to have him” and that the team has had him on their radar in recent months while he was with the Rangers.
However, Carpenter will have to improve as regards his last MLB seasons, which saw him hit .177/.315/.294, since the Yankees fans are unforgiving. Despite this, his experience will surely come in handy in the dugout.
