As is customary every Monday of each week, the winners of the Major League Baseball Player of the Week award were announced, and on this occasion the most outstanding names in the period between June 27 and July 3, 2022 make up the list.
As announced by the league through its social networks, the award winner in the American League was Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez, while in the National League it was Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins.
MLB Player of the Week: American League – Julio Rodríguez
The torrid batting displayed in the last few weeks on part of Julio Rodríguez has brought positive consequences not only for the Seattle Mariners, but also for the young outfielder, who over the weekend was named American Rookie of the Month, and this Tuesday was rewarded as the Player of the Week in the young circuit.
Last week, Rodríguez posted an impressive 1.273 OPS, in addition to hitting three home runs and driving in six runs with a stolen base. Figures that made him the first player since 1900 with at least 15 home runs and 20 stolen bases in his first 81 games.
The 21-year-old joins Ty France as the Mariners’ Players of the Week this season.
MLB Player of the Week: National League – Rhys Hoskins
With Bryce Harper absent from the lineup, the Philadelphia Phillies desperately need other offensive pieces to answer the team’s needs, a call that Rhys Hoskins received and for which he was named Nationals Player of the Week.
The first baseman led all Major Leaguers with four home runs, a 1.158 slugging percentage and a 1.678 OPS. A small sample of what the slugger has done in the last month of the season, a period in which he has 17 extra bases and the same number of runs scored, runs batted in and tickets.
This is the first time Hoskins has been recognized with the prestigious weekly award.
