Top 5 Best Contracts in Yankees History

The New York Yankees is a team that has historically featured great players who have received some of the best contracts in MLB history.

In this list, we will mention several million-dollar deals that the Bronx team has agreed to, especially in recent years when huge figures have been awarded in the Major Leagues.

Best Contracts at Yankees

1.- Gerrit Cole

Gerrit Cole fulfilled his dream of playing for the Yankees after agreeing to an astronomical 9-year, $324 million contract, leaving an annual salary of $36 million.

The right-handed starter got this $300 million-plus deal after becoming one of the most dominant right-handed pitchers in the American League in a Houston Astros uniform.

In his first two campaigns in the Bronx, Cole has looked solid on the mound but has been unable to get the team back to the World Series.

2.- Alex Rodríguez

Alex Rodríguez arrived in New York with great fanfare for the 2004 campaign, with a 10-year, $275 million contract, which meant $27.5 million per year.

After establishing himself as a superstar thanks to his performances with the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners, A-Rod signed with the team that five years later went on to win the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Rodríguez retired from MLB with a .295 average and .380 OBP, with 696 home runs and 329 stolen bases.

CC Sabathia is one of the best-performing left-handed pitchers in Yankees history. In this case, the agreement was for 8 years and US$182 million.

The pitcher came from being the ace of the Cleveland Indians, and during his first campaign in the Bronx, he was part of the team that won the 2009 World Series against the Phillies, the Yankees’ last title.

Sabathia retired from MLB after the end of the 2019 campaign with a record of 251 wins and 161 losses. In addition, he registered an effectiveness of 3.74 and WHIP of 1.25.

Derek Jeter could not be missing from this list, due to his 10-year, $189 million contract signed for the 2001 Major League Baseball campaign.

After 5 full campaigns at the helm of one of the winningest dynasties in franchise history, “Captain America” signed a deal that virtually confirmed him as a Yankee for the rest of his career.

The current owner of the Miami Marlins retired from MLB in 2014 after firing 3,465 hits, with a .310 average and .377 OBP.

Mark Teixeira came to the Yankees after signing an 8-year, $180 million contract, and in his first campaign, he was a key player in the franchise’s title run.

The remembered first baseman retired from baseball after terminating his contract with the New York team at the end of the 2016 campaign. He hit 409 home runs and towed 1,298 runs.

Major League Baseball’s winningest team with 27 World Series titles hasn’t lifted the championship trophy since 2009, so general manager Brian Cashman may be negotiating a high-impact free agent signing ahead of the upcoming 2022 Major League Baseball campaign.
