Week 24 in MLS was full of surprises, but mostly it was full of goals. Saturday, August 6, was a historic day as a total of 57 goals were scored, a number seen never before in the North American league.
Only one of the 13 games in the Week 24 of the MLS ended with a 0-0 scoreline, although three of the 26 teams that participated in the matches were held scoreless – D.C. United, New York Red Bulls and Orlando City.
The rain of goals had a lot of variety and, as always, there were some great gems from players who came out more inspired than usual. As every week, at JefeBet we set ourselves the task of selecting the best 5 goals and, although today there was a lot to choose from, here are the best ones.
Goals – MLS Week 24 Best Goals of the Week
Gareth Bale – LAFC
Former Real Madrid star Gareth Bale came to the MLS to shine and, once again, he scored a great goal. LAFC defeated Real Salt Lake by a score of 1-4 in Week 24, where the Wales international scored one of those goals.
He received the ball on the right side of the field and ran at full speed with the mark on top of the rivals, but managed to make space to face the goal, between three defenders and the goalkeeper he managed to shoot to close the scoreboard in the 87th minute.
Lucas Zelarayán
The Argentine, Lucas Zelarayán, continues to perform well this season, scoring a brace in Columbus Crew‘s 3-2 win over New York City FC, but one of his goals is one of the best of the day for his exquisite finishing.
Zelarayán took the ball on the edge of the box, turned to look around and opted to shoot straight at goal, but lofted the ball over the keeper to give his team a 2-1 lead.
Cristian Arango – LAFC
LAFC‘s Colombian striker Cristian Arango continues to be on fire this season. He scored two goals in his team’s 4-1 win over Real Salt Lake, but you have to see the way he opened the scoring in the ninth minute.
After a free kick, the ball started to go back and forth between players from both teams, but when it reached Arango’s feet, the player pulled out a special resource and back-heeled the ball into the net.
Lorenzo Insigne – Toronto FC
Italian Lorenzo Insigne, who joined Toronto FC this season, made his debut as the team’s goalscorer on Saturday. The former Napoli player from Serie A managed to score on the historic date in MLS, and it wasn’t just any goal.
In the 77th minute, he dared to try from outside the box with a tremendous right-footed shot and managed to score the fourth goal for the Canadian team that won by a score of 3-4 against Nashville SC.
Paul Marie – San Jose Earthquakes
French right back Paul Marie, who plays for the San Jose Earthquakes, was among the scorers this matchday in the 3-3 draw against Austin FC. The 27-year-old scored a gem of a goal to give his team a 2-1 lead.
Paul Marie took the ball quite far from the box, but he saw himself with space and chances, so he decided to try his luck from there. To everyone’s surprise, the ball was powerful and well placed, making it impossible for the goalkeeper.
