Liga MX will be back in action this Friday, July 1st with the Apertura 2022. It will be a tournament loaded with soccer and also rushed, because the Qatar World Cup 2022 will take place between November and December, and all the world’s leagues have to end before it starts. It will be a difficult test, especially for the coaches who will have to get their teams up and running as soon as possible.
Before the start of the tournament, there are already some who are shaping up to be some of the best coaches in Liga MX. This is so because they have added important players to their ranks, and others because they have already been working on solid projects and want to continue along this path.
Best Liga MX Coaches for Clausura 2022
5. Miguel Herrera
Miguel Herrera will begin his third season as Tigres coach, and by now he should have learned from the mistakes that have prevented his team from becoming champions. They have a talented roster, and after just missing out on a spot in the semifinals last year, they are anticipated to improve on that performance for the Apertura 2022.
4. Fernando Ortiz
Fernando Ortiz took over the Club América bench on an interim basis, following the departure of Santiago Solari, but got a contract renewal for having helped the team get out of a bad streak and qualify for La Liguilla after having been at the bottom of the overall standings.
The team was eliminated in the semifinals, but made a considerable improvement over the first part of the tournament. This will be the litmus test for “Tano”.
3. Víctor Manuel Vucetich
Víctor Manuel Vucetich returned to Rayados in the middle of last year’s tournament to try to straighten out a team that had failed to achieve important things under Javier Aguirre’s lead. The “King Midas” managed to get the team into the playoffs, but lost on penalties against San Luis. Now he will have a new opportunity to reminisce about the old days with Monterrey.
2. Guillermo Almada
Guillermo Almada took over as Pachuca’s coach in December 2021 and the change he made in the team’s performance was quickly noticed. The Tuzo team finished the Clausura 2022 as the overall leader, losing only three of the 17 matches they played in the regular phase.
With an interesting game, they managed to reach the final but could not win the title. If the team maintains its solid rhythm and confidence, it may accomplish similar performances and even win the championship.
1. Diego Cocca
Argentinean coach Diego Cocca was recently named the league’s best coach. This distinction comes as no surprise considering that he is the two-time champion coach of Mexican soccer.
He arrived at Atlas and focused on building a solid project, not only to achieve results, but also to break a 70-year drought without titles. If he can maintain consistency, he could continue to be one of the best coaches in Liga MX history.
