The San Diego Padres failed to live up to expectations last campaign. However, they have a roster with several of the best contracts in the National League heading into the 2022 Major League season.
Best Padres Contracts: Wil Myers
Wil Myers has established himself as one of the outstanding players in the California lineup, thanks to his versatility defensively and his hitting at important moments.
The American currently has a 6-year, $83 million deal, with a salary of $22.5 million for the upcoming campaign.
Myers has a lifetime MLB total of 146 home runs and 103 stolen bases.
Best Padres Contracts: Yu Darvish
Yu Darvish is coming off an inconsistent performance with the Californian team but remains one of the highest-paid pitchers in the franchise after signing a 6-year, $126 million deal.
The 35-year-old Japanese appears to have overcome his physical problems and is one of the stars of the Padres’ rotation for the 2022 season, where he will earn $19 million.
Best Padres Contracts: Eric Hosmer
Eric Hosmer has been a complete disappointment in California after signing an 8-year, $144 million deal.
After being one of the great stars of the Kansas City Royals, the first baseman has never shown a similar level in the National League. In fact, in 2021 he could barely register a .269 average, with 12 home runs.
For the 2022 campaign, Hosmer will earn a total of $21 million with the San Diego team.
Best Padres Contracts: Manny Machado
Manny Machado is the second highest paid on the Padres’ payroll after reaching a 10-year, $300 million bomb deal.
The stellar Dominican third baseman will have a salary of $32 million in 2022, money that is well justified considering that we are talking about a player with 28 home runs and 106 RBIs, in addition to his exquisite defense.
Best Padres Contracts: Fernando Tatis Jr
Fernando Tatis Jr is one of the faces of MLB today, and that translates into a 14-year, $340 million contract.
The 23-year-old Dominican will “barely” earn $5.71 million in 2022, but that figure will be increasing year by year to reach $36.7 million.
After 3 MLB campaigns, Tatís Jr has a .292 average and .369 OBP, with 81 home runs and 195 runs batted in.
