The UEFA Super Cup for the 2021-22 season will be played this coming Wednesday, August 10 at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, Finland. This competition brings together the champions from the UEFA Champions League and from the UEFA Europa League in search of the new super champion of the European competitions. This time the rivals fighting for this title are Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt.
This European competition was held for the first time in 1973 and although it has undergone some modifications in the format, it has managed to remain in force to this day. Throughout history we have seen 38 teams in European soccer crowned with the UEFA Super Cup, but as in all prestigious tournaments, there is more than one team that has managed to win more than two titles.

Europe’s Most Winning Teams in the UEFA Super Cup
AC Milan
AC Milan is one of the two teams with the most titles in this competition, having won five Super Cups. The Italian team was crowned for the first time in 1989 and in the following year, 1990, became the first team to win the tournament twice. It went on to win the 1994, 2003, and the last edition in 2007. It was runner-up in 1973 and 1993.
FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona equals Milan as the top winners of this UEFA tournament, with five titles. The first time Barcelona had the opportunity to lift this cup was in 1992, after which it won it again in 1997, 2009, 2011 and 2015. It is the team that has participated the most times in this competition, with nine appearances, winning the title and finishing runner-up in 1979, 1982, 1989 and 2006.
Real Madrid
The Real Madrid will participate in its eighth UEFA Super Cup,trying to equal Milan and Barcelona with five titles, as so far in seven participations, it has only been crowned on four occasions, in the 2002, 2014, 2016 and 2017 editions, while it has been runner-up in 1998, 2000 and 2018. It is the second team to win the tournament twice.
Liverpool
Liverpool also appears among the European teams that have had the privilege of competing and winning this prestigious tournament. The English team has participated in six editions of the Super Cup and won four of them: 1977, 2001, 2005, 2019. It finished runner-up twice, in 1978 and 1984. So far, it is the representative of English soccer with the most Super Cup appearances and the most Super Cup titles in history.
Atlético de Madrid
Atlético Madrid is the third Spanish club that appears among the most winners in the history of the Super Cup, but of the three, it is the one with the highest percentage of effectiveness in this tournament, since it competed for it on three occasions and won them all. Its first title in this competition came in 2010, and then it was crowned again in the 2012 and 2018 editions.
