Tyson Fury said goodbye to boxing a few months ago, but it looks like he has plans to return to the ring, at least for an exhibition fight.
The British heavyweight fighter’s last bout was on April 23rd against Dillian Whyte. In that fight, which took place at the mythical Wembley Stadium, Tyson Fury defeated his opponent by technical knockout in the sixth round. That was his farewell to boxing in front of more than 90 thousand spectators.
After the fight, the fighter declared that it was his last performance as he had made a promise to his wife:
I promised my wife that after Wilder’s three fights I was going to finish. I wanted to fight at home, I owed it to the fans. I think this is it for me, I think this is the last of my career.
However, three months later, information has surfaced about his possible coming out of retirement. According to The Telegraph, Tyson Fury is close to agreeing a show fight against a famous actor from the Game of Thrones series.
The rival would be Hafþór Björnsson, who played the role of Mountain in the aforementioned series.
The Telegraph published statements from the 33-year-old boxer, in which he mentions that it would be fun to knock out the Icelander.
It would be fun. It would be great to be there in front of, say, 70,000 fans and show him what boxing is all about and knock him out. We’re talking to his team at the moment and it’s definitely something I’m interested in.
Tyson Fury and a Possible Return to the Ring
The boxer was not the only one who accepted that there are negotiations for a showdown against the actor, because recently in an interview with IFL TV, it was Björnsson himself who said that there is talk but nothing concrete.
I know there are some negotiations going on and some talks, but nothing is complete. If it were to happen, I would gladly step into the ring and gladly fight him.
Fury has a record of 33 wins, 23 of them by knock out, so any opponent should fear him.
In the case of the Game of Thrones actor, this would not be the first fight in a ring, as he held a couple of exhibition fights against Steven War and Eddie Hall.
We will be looking for more details on this battle that could provide a great show.
