In a new edition of UFC Fight Night, one of the night’s preliminary fights will be the American Cynthia Calvillo vs Nina Nunes, two women who desperately need to get a win to stay among the best flyweight fighters.
Both fighters have a lot of experience in the octagon and will have to appeal to it if they want to get out of their bad streak, as Calvillo has three consecutive losses and Nunes has two losses in a row. This need, of course, will make combat much more interesting.
Betting Preview for UFC Fight Night Featuring Cynthia Calvillo vs Nina Nunes on August 13, 2022
- Where: Pechanga Arena, San Diego, California.
- When: Saturday, August 13, 2022, 4 PM ET
- Odds: Cynthia Calvillo (-170) vs Nina Nunes (+140)
Cynthia Calvillo
- Odds: -170.
- Record: 9-4-1.
- Age: 35.
- Height: 1.63 m.
- Weight: 57.2 kg.
- Reach: 1.63 m.
After starting her UFC career with five wins in six fights, Cynthia Calvillo has gone downhill with three consecutive losses, and in the last one her corner had to stop the fight in the second round against Andrea Lee.
However, for this bout, she starts as a slight favorite due to her ability to not only be a good puncher, but also a good fighter. Besides, she is much better than her opponent in the close fight and on the board. Two qualities that she was unable to use in her previous fights and that she will have to retake if she wants to get back to winning ways.
Nina Nunes
- Odds: +140.
- Record: 10-7-0.
- Age: 36.
- Height: 1.66 m.
- Weight: 52.6 kg.
- Reach: 1.63 m.
Nina Nunes desperately needs to defeat Calvillo if she wants to stay close to the best at featherweight and not have to put a possible retirement on the table, especially since she hasn’t won since December 2018 at UFC 231.
The experienced fighter comes from losing by unanimous decision in her last fight, and against her opponent she will have to appeal to that great combination of punches that makes her so dangerous. For nothing in the world should she let the battle be close or on the board, plus having a few more pounds of muscle mass than her opponent could be very helpful.
JefeBet Prediction
In a fight between two fighters who are going through very complicated moments, the tension that will be experienced in the octagon will make the one who has temper the winner.
As both are experienced, the use of those qualities that can do the most damage to their opponent will make the difference. In that sense I think Nina Nunes, despite not starting as a favorite, is a step ahead of Cynthia Calvillo.
The latter has not been able to put her fighting style into practice in recent fights, and her bad timing could work against her again. For her part, Nunes has some advantage with her weight, and the quality of her punches could force the fight to be determined by strength rather than intelligence.
Pick: Nina Nunes by decision.
