Salvador Cabañas is a former Paraguayan soccer player who played as a striker and was a star of several teams such as Paraguay, Brazil, Chile and Mexico, he also played internationally with Paraguay’s national soccer team from 2004 to 2010, and in 44 games, scored 10 goals. And these are just a few of the former athlete’s accomplishments.

All these achievements would be lost because in January 2010 in a bar in Mexico City, Salvador Cabañas was shot in the head. From that moment on, his life took a 180° turn.

After this, the player ,who took part in the 2006 World Cup in Germany and the 2007 Copa América, was the top scorer of the 2007 and 2008 Copa Libertadores, and in 2007 was also selected as the winner of the America’s Soccer Player of the Year and Paraguayan Footballer of the Year in 2007, 2008 and 2009. There is almost nothing left of thay player, at least not of the athlete and much less of his dreams.

However, it doesn’t hurt to take a look at some of the best goals Cabañas scored in his career, although it’s impossible to include all of them, at least with the Águilas he scored 98.

Salvador Cabañas and the Incident That Changed His Life

Unfortunately we did not have much of Cabañas, or at least not all that the player could have given in the world of sports, although at least the athlete was able to save his life by a miracle, even though the bullet that hit him is still far away in his head, reminding him of the miracle of his second chance, but also of everything that could not be of his sporting life.

He was recently spotted at an airport and was asked about his state of health and the former soccer player responded:

Everything is fine, I’m happy… I’m really happy.

He was also asked about the rumor of making a series based on his life and commented as follows:

No, not really. I would not like that. I am grateful.

How did the incident occur?

Salvador Cabañas was at the peak of his sports career, but he had this unexpected change because on January 25, 2010, while Cabañas was visiting a bar in Mexico City, he got into an altercation and suffered a bullet wound to the head.

He was in a critical condition for several weeks, until May 21, 2010 when he was discharged and immediately went to Paraguay to see his family and loved ones.

There are many versions of why the altercation took place and also others that say that the whole situation was a settling of scores against Salvador Cabañas, since it was said that he had been shot for messing with actress Arleth Terán, who at the time was supposedly the partner of Edgar Valdez Villareal, better known as La Barbie, and who was a member of the Beltrán Leyva drug trafficking group, according to journalist Anabel Hernández.

From all this he was left with the experience of having survived the most difficult test that life imposed on him and in October 2021 he was the godfather of the opening of a clinic in Morelos, where he expressed his gratitude for the second chance that life gave him.
