Who Are the Latin Artists Who Joined YouTube’s Billion Views Club?

Latin artists have received a warm welcome in the global music market, and as a result, their reach has grown, thanks in part to streaming platforms, but also to their excellent videos, which are available on the most popular video platform: YouTube.

However, we cannot talk about the most watched videos on YouTube without mentioning PSY’s One Hit Wonder: the song that was played everywhere and put everyone to dance with its catchy rhythm and choreography. 1. Despacito – Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee

This song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi featuring the also Puerto Rican rapper and singer was released in 2017, was included in Fonsi’s 2019 album Vida de Fonsi, and has more than 7.905 million views. This song became a worldwide phenomenon, appearing in video games such as Just Dance 2018, in the Chilean soap opera La Colombiana, and in popular soccer culture, as fans of the Argentine club San Lorenzo de Almagro used the melody for a soccer chant.

2. Dame tu cosita – El Chombo y Cutty Ranks

Launched in 2018, it has over 3.981 million views. Despite having a very simple musical structure and a video that is also very simple – a background of an animated lake that changes from day to night while a type of alien makes a very funny dance – this song also became a trend in social networks and appeared in Just Dance Now and Just Dance Unlimited.

3. Bailando – Enrique Iglesias, Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona

This song became an international hit, both in Spanish-speaking countries as well as in other countries in North America and Europe. It was released in 2014 and already has over 3.235 million views on YouTube. It was #1 on song charts throughout Latin America, including Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs.

4. Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) – Shakira

This song by Colombian singer Shakira in collaboration with the South African band Freshlyground, written and composed entirely by Shakira, was released for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. This song has over 3.191 million views on the platform and was well received by the general public.

5. Mi Gente – J Balvin y Willy William

This music video was released in 2017 and as of today has over 3.105 million views on YouTube. This was one of the songs performed at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show held in 2020. And, in some ways, it symbolized the Colombian artist’s new sound style.
