Betting on the New England Patriots (-3.5)
Regular season record: 2-8
The Patriots are coming off a bye in Week 11, which was timely with all the issues New England is dealing with. The Pats have not won a game since their 29-25 victory at home over the Buffalo Bills back in Week 7.
Since then, New England got outclassed by the Miami Dolphins (31-17), Washington Commanders (20-17), and the Indianapolis Colts (10-6). New England’s offense is hard to trust, with the team not yet decided on whether to continue starting Mac Jones or let Bailey Zappe take over the reins under center. However, the Patriots should be able to keep in step, at least offensively, with the Giants, who are the worst in the NFL with just 13.5 points per contest.
Betting on the New York Giants (+3.5)
Regular season record: 3-8
Sure, the Giants are arguably one of the worst teams on offense (or overall) this season, but they showed signs of life in Week 11 by defeating the Washington Commanders on the road, 31-19, to snap a three-game losing skid. Tommy DeVito had his first NFL win in that contest, passing for 246 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions on 18/26 completions.
He was sacked nine times for a loss of 45 yards, so that’s a strong message for the Giants’ offensive line to step up. Conversely, the Giants’ defense also showed up to play, intercepting Washington quarterback Sam Howell three times and sacking him four times. The Giants are rejuvenated and that’s not a good sign for a Patriots side that is seemingly clueless at the moment.
El Jefe’s Prediction on New England Patriots vs New York Giants
Both the Patriots and the Giants have been awful this season, but in this battle of bad teams, it is New England that will emerge with a win, as Bill Belichick’s squad make key defensive stops and pull off timely takeaways.
Prediction:
The Patriots win, 20-17.
