The NFL preseason has already begun and this Friday, August 19, during the second week of the schedule, we will witness the New Orleans Saints vs Green Bay Packers match.
Both teams are coming off losses in their first preseason game, with the Saints being the most troubling, scoring just 13 points against a Texans team that projects to be one of the worst in the league defensively. Meanwhile, the Packers, without Aaron Rodgers, lost away from home to the 49ers in a very exciting duel.
Predictions and Betting Preview for the Week 2 NFL Preseason New Orleans Saints vs Green Bay Packers game on August 19, 2022.
- Where: Lambeau Field – Green Bay, Wisconsin.
- When: Friday, August 19, 2022, 8:00 PM E.T.
Betting on the New Orleans Saints
- Preseason record: 0-1.
- Spread: +3.5.
- Moneyline: +125.
- Over/Under: 38.
The Saints’ start to the preseason was not promising, with new head coach Dennis Allen somewhat concerned about his team’s performance and Jameis Winston’s new injury, which, although it does not appear to be serious, is still a concern in New Orleans as he’s recovering from a torn ligament suffered last year.
After scoring just 13 points against the Texans, things are not looking good for the Packers’ second home game. While Andy Dalton had a great day as Winston’s replacement at the helm of the defense, the team’s three turnovers are something that must be corrected immediately.
The good news for Allen is that this performance occurred with several of his starters out, so it’s not surprising that, versus Green Bay, we’ll see a Saints team a lot more like the one we’ll see in the regular round.
Betting on the Green Bay Packers
- Preseason record: 0-1.
- Spread: -3.5.
- Moneyline: -160.
- Over/Under: 38.
While it seems necessary for Aaron Rodgers to play even a few snaps to strengthen his bond with the new receptors, Green Bay doesn’t seem to be in too much of a rush to do so. It’s already been confirmed that the quarterback will not play this Friday against the Saints, after also being on the bench against the 49ers.
That would seem to leave the responsibility of the offense back to young Jordan Love, who did not have a good night against San Francisco’s defense by throwing two touchdowns but allowing three interceptions on 24 passes thrown.
Although the Packers are favored to win their division, they still seem to have a lot of room for improvement and the matchup against New Orleans, which didn’t show much against Houston, could help head coach Matt LaFleur tighten several screws.
JefeBet Prediction
Of course, the absence of Aaron Rodgers is a sensitive blow for those who want to bet on this game. However, the Packers have a bit more depth than the Saints, which is critical in games like these where the starters do not play.
Andy Dalton didn’t do badly against the Texans, but the Packers defense is much more solid, and New Orleans showed very little offensive arsenal in this preseason opener. Jordan Love was inconsistent for the Packers, but he still outperformed the whole Saints offense.
Pick: Green Bay to win.
