This was Azarenka’s first singles title since Miami in March 2016, and her first since giving birth to her son Leo in December 2016.
2019: Madison Keys
American Madison Keys won on her home soil at the 2019 edition of the WTA 1000 Cincinnati against Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova with a score of 7-5, 7-6(7-5). The match was played on August 18, and Madison Keys had a 76% efficiency with her first serve, 13 aces and 3 of 7 break points won.
2018: Kiki Bertens
Kiki Bertens, on her way to her first major hard court title, defeated the world’s No. 2 and No. 1 players of the moment in the second round and the final, respectively.
She became the first Dutch woman to win a title in Cincinnati by defeating Simona Halep in the final, 2-6, 7-6(8-6), 6-2.
2017: Garbiñe Muguruza
Garbiñe Muguruza won the title by defeating Simona Halep in the final, 6-1, 6-0. By losing the final, Halep did not take her third chance in 2017 to reach the top of the WTA singles rankings when she was only supposed to conquer this match.
