Betting on the Florida Atlantic Owls

  • Regular Season Record: 33-3

Florida Atlantic denied the extension of the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights’ Cinderella run with a 78-70 victory in the second round on Sunday. It was not an easy game for the Owls, but they ultimately executed better down the stretch to pull off the victory.

Johnell Davis led the way for the Owls with an insane stat line of 29 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, and five rebounds. He will be a focus of Tennessee’s elite defense, so the Owls will have to get the others more involved offensively. The Owls have a top-30 offense in the nation per KenPom and a top-40 defense, which has not allowed either of their last two opponents to post a better effective field goal percentage than 45%.

Betting on the Tennessee Volunteers

  • Regular Season Record: 25-10

Tennessee looks as though it was going to be a victim of a first-round upset when it narrowly defeated the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, 58-55. But the Volunteers silence the doubters in the second round by dominating the Duke Blue Devils in the second round last Saturday to the tune of a 65-52 score. It seems that the Vols have gotten their moxie back and that’s bad news for Florida Atlantic.

Tennessee’s renowned defense held Duke to only 42.9 FG% and 27.3 3FG%, while also forcing the Blue Devils to commit a total of 15 turnovers. The Vols have slowed down much more dangerous offenses than Florida Atlantic’s, so it’s not hard to see them stifle the Owls all game long on Thursday. Tennessee is No. 1 in Division I basketball with just 87.0 points allowed per game and third with a defensive effective field goal percentage of 42.7%.

JefeBet Prediction

Tennessee will have trouble early on with the pace of Florida Atlantic, but should be able to take care of business for a close victory.

Prediction: Tennessee wins, 68-63.
