The Padres finally stopped the bleeding with a 7-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox last Sunday at home to end a four-game losing skid. San Diego, however, still is just 2-9 over their last 11 games. Nevertheless, the Padres will look to feed off the momentum of their last win, as they send Yu Darvish to the mound this Tuesday.
The 36-year-old Darvish picked up a loss in his last start, as he allowed four earned runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of work in a 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs at home last Wednesday. Darvish can recover from that loss against another one of the least impressive offensive teams in the big leagues in Washington. The Nationals are just 19th in the majors, as of this writing, with a .706 OPS. Current Washington players are also sporting just a career .272 xwOBA opposite Darvish.

After losing four games in a row, things are starting to look up again for the Nationals. They have won their last two games during a three-game set against the Detroit Tigers at home via a combined score of 11-6. Although the Nationals, as mentioned earlier, don’t have an explosive offense, they are seemingly hitting their stride of late.
Over their last seven games, the Nationals have hit .307 with nine home runs and 35 RBI – second-best in the big leagues over that same span. Outfielder Lane Thomas is also having a blast since the start of May, as he has a .325 batting average along with a .365 OBP so far this month. Corey Dickerson, who just got activated from the 10-day injured list, might make noise in this game, as he is a career .316 (6-for-19) hitter against Darvish.
