Betting on the New York Jets (-1)
It’s easy to tell what the biggest story for the Jets is this offseason, and it’s no other than the addition of Aaron Rodgers to the squad. With Rodgers, the Jets have a genuine quarterback to run the show on the field. However, don’t expect the future Hall of Famer to see action in this game against the Browns. Instead, look for his backups to handle the chores under center.
That would be the trio of Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle, and Chris Streveler. Another player to watch out for over the side of the Jets is rookie running back Israel Abanikanda, who was taken in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by New York. He rushed for 1,431 yards in his last year with the Pittsburgh Panthers. Defensively, the Jets hope to see the team do well on that end of the field just like last year when they were second in the NFL with just 18.6 points allowed per contest.
Betting on the Cleveland Browns (+1)
The Browns are entering an intriguing season. First of all, Deshaun Watson is going to be ready right in the very first week of the 2023 NFL regular season unlike last year when he had to serve a lengthy suspension before seeing action. But just like Rodgers, Watson is not expected to see snaps in this exhibition showdown versus the Jets. Chances are, Joshua Dobbs, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and Kellen Mond will share the load under center.
The Browns must also be interested to see rookie wideout Cedric Tillman in action. Tillman was the Browns’ first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, taking the former Tennessee Volunteers star in the third round. He could be an immediate contributor to the Browns’ attack that averaged 21.2 points per game in 2022. The battle for the backup tight end position behind David Njoku could also fire up the Browns’ offense in this game, with Jordan Akins and Harrison Bryant looking to one-up each other.
El Jefe’s Prediction on New York Jets vs Cleveland Browns
This will be a game that will have plenty of turnovers and penalties, given the fact that it’s been a while since these teams played. In the end, it’s the Browns who will come away with a victory.
Prediction:
The Browns win, 23-17.
