Betting on the Baltimore Ravens (-2.5)
Preseason record: 1-0
If there’s one thing we know about the Ravens, it’s that they are near-invincible in the preseason. Baltimore stretched its overall win streak in the preseason to 24 games by edging the Philadelphia Eagles at home last Saturday, 20-19. The last time the Ravens dropped a game in August was way back in 2015.
Tyler Huntley and Josh Johnson teamed up to lead the Ravens’ attack, as they passed for 88 and 45 yards, respectively, while tossing a touchdown each. It’s clear that Baltimore takes preseason games at least a little bit more seriously than the other teams. Whether they admit it or not, the Ravens are invested in preserving their streak. The Ravens are 9-1 against the spread in their last 10 preseason games on the road.
Betting on the Washington Commanders (+2.5)
Preseason record: 1-0
Sam Howell passed his first test of the preseason. He passed for 77 yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 9/12 completions in last week’s 17-15 road win over the Cleveland Browns. Howell is expected to be the starting quarterback of Washington come Week 1 of the regular season.
That kind of performance is important to feed Howell the confidence he needs to excel as a starter for the Commanders, who also got a quality performance from Cole Turner. The second-year tight end caught all four targets for 31 yards. It was also great to see for Washington that its players respond well to the play-calling of first-year offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. That could carry over into Week 2 versus the Ravens. The Commanders are 2-0 against the spread in their last two preseason outings.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Baltimore Ravens vs Washington Commanders
The Ravens had a close call in Week 1, but they still emerged victorious to keep their streak alive. They will get another tough challenge this week from the Commanders, but will still come away with another win.
Prediction:
The Ravens win, 16-13.
