Betting on the Tennessee Titans (+3)
Regular season record: 0-0
The Titans have some momentum going into their season opener after winning both of their last two games in the preseason. Although Ryan Tannehill did not see action in the preseason, the Titans know pretty much everything they need to know about him. Last season, Tannehill played 12 games and passed for 2,536 yards and 13 touchdowns with six interceptions. Running back Derrick Henry will continue as the top option on the ground for the Titans, who were 13th in the NFL last season with 125.4 rushing yards per contest.
A big help on offense has arrived in Tennessee, with DeAndre Hopkins coming over to the team in the offseason. With Hopkins downfield, the Saints’ defense could get stretched, which means more room to run for Henry, who had 1,538 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in 2022. But of course, having Hopkins downfield will add so much variety to Tennessee’s offense which was run-centric last season.
Betting on the New Orleans Saints (-3)
Regular season record: 0-0
It’s a different era now for the Saints, as they will be breaking out a new starting quarterback in Derek Carr, who played his first nine seasons in the NFL wearing Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders uniform. Coming off a Pro Bowl campaign, Carr will look to elevate the Raiders’ offense which was mediocre for the most part of 2022.
Going from Andy Dalton and Jameis Winston to Carr seems like an improvement for New Orleans, though, it must also be noted that the team will not have running back Alvin Kamara in the early portion of the 2023 campaign due to suspension. The Saints have Jamaal Williams and rookie Kendre Miller to handle the job on the ground though. Over on the other side of the field is New Orleans’ defense which was top 10 a year ago in scoring defense and total defense.
