Betting on the Dallas Cowboys (-3)
Regular season record: 0-0
Gone is running back Ezekiel Elliott in Dallas, but the starting quarterback remains, with Dak Prescott still calling plays under center. Prescott is healthy and has a solid array of weapons at his disposal in the 2023 NFL regular season. CeeDee Lamb and Dallas newcomer Brandin Cooks look like a solid combo downfield for the Cowboys’ attack that was fourth last season with 27.5 points per game. Cooks is a fresh face in Arlington but he’s a veteran of the game.
His experience will bring a lot to the table for Dallas’ passing attack. As for their rushing offense, Tony Pollard will take care of business in that department – with perhaps an increased load now that he doesn’t have to share the load with Elliott. Defensively, Micah Parsons will anchor the defensive line that should pose a big threat to Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. Parsons had at least 13.0 sacks in each of his first two seasons in the NFL.
Betting on the New York Giants (+3)
Regular season record: 0-0
Daniel Jones is still the man under center for the Giants, and he will look to prove right from the get-go of the 2023 NFL season that New York was right in its decision to secure him the bag. Jones took a step forward in his progress as the Giants’ starter in 2022 and another leap could be in store this year.
In the last NFL campaign, Jones passed for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns with five interceptions in 16 games. Another great sign for the Giants is that Saquon Barkley is healthy. He showed he’s back (or at least close) to his pre-injury form, as he recorded 1,312 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Jones’ armory gets an upgrade as well with Darren Waller now the team’s TE1.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Dallas Cowboys vs New York Giants
Daniel Jones builds on his strong 2022 season and leads New York to a win at home. Waller formally introduces himself to Giants nation with a 50-plus yard (with a touchdown) performance.
Prediction:
The Giants win, 23-20.
