Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (-3)
Regular season record: 0-1
The Chiefs got stunned in Week 1 at home in a 21-20 loss to Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions. However, there’s no need to push the panic button for Kansas City. The Chiefs should still be fine, especially if tight end Travis Kelce returns to action this week.
Kelce missed Week 1’s game against the Lions due to a knee issue, but recent reports suggest that he is in line to finally make his season debut in Week 2 versus the Jags. In 2022, Kelce had 1,338 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 110 receptions and 152 targets. When healthy, Kelce can still be pretty unstoppable downfield. With or without Kelce, Patrick Mahomes will be a big threat to the Jags’ defense.
Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (+3)
Regular season record: 1-0
The Colts opened up their schedule in the 2023 campaign the right way, as they defeated the Indianapolis Colts on the road in Week 1, 31-21. True enough to preseason predictions, Calvin Ridley showed out as a major weapon for the Jags’ passing attack, as he led the team with 101 receiving yards and a touchdown on eight catches and 11 targets.
Meanwhile, Trevor Lawrence passed for 241 yards and two touchdowns with an interception on 24/32 completions against the Colts. Having a weapon like Ridley makes Lawrence’s life easier, but don’t forget that Jacksonville also still has a lively rushing attack with Travis Etienne leading the ground game of the team. Etienne can have success versus Kansas City’s defense that allowed 118 rushing yards in Week 1.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Kansas City Chiefs vs Jacksonville Jaguars
There’s no way the Chiefs start the season 0-2. Expecting the Chiefs to win this game, but it won’t be a walk in the park for them.
Prediction:
The Chiefs win, 24-23.
