Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (-8)
Regular season record: 1-0
Brock Purdy looked sharp in Week 1, a good sign for the 49ers going forward. Purdy, who had offseason surgery in his elbow, went 19/29 for 220 passing yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions in San Francisco’s 30-7 domination of the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road last Sunday.
Meanwhile, running back Christian McCaffrey was electric on the ground, rushing for 152 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries for an average of 6.9 yards per carry. Brandon Aiyuk went off as well, as he had 129 receiving yards and two touchdowns while catching all eight targets. Defensively, the Niners arguably looked even scarier, as they had five sacks and two interceptions versus Pittsburgh. Drake London had three sacks while SF newcomer Javon Hargrave had a sack. That’s a strong message sent to the Rams from San Francisco.
Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (+8)
Regular season record: 1-0
How about those Rams? Without wide receiver Cooper Kupp, the Rams still looked so good offensively in Week 1, defeating the Seattle Seahawks on the road, 30-13. Not many saw that victory coming, especially the performance of the pair of Tutu Atwell and Puka Nacua. Atwell and Nacua each had 119 receiving yards on a combined 16 receptions and 23 targets in the Seattle game.
They just broke out right away, and the confidence they got from that contest should only serve them well. With Atwell and Nacua showing their field-stretching capabilities, running backs Kyren Williams and Cam Akers could find enough space to go around the Niners’ defense on Sunday. Williams showed out as well in Week 1, rushing for 52 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Los Angeles’ defense could be the real surprise though this coming weekend after the Rams held Seattle to just 2/9 conversions on third downs.
El Jefe’s Prediction on San Francisco 49ers vs Los Angeles Rams
The Rams learn they can’t always win with Atwell and Nacua leading the charge, at least not against the stingy defense of the Niners. Taking San Francisco to win this matchup.
Prediction:
The 49ers win, 27-16.
