Betting on the Houston Texans (+9)

The Texans remain winless, but it’s not for the lack of effort and clear bad play form rookie quarterback CJ Stroud. In fact, Stroud put up an admirable performance in Week 2’s 31-20 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, as he was able to pass for 384 passing yards and two touchdowns on 30/47 completions despite playing behind a banged-up offensive line.
There is hope in Stround and the Texans, who also got great performances from the wide-receiver pair of Nico Collins and Robert Woods, who had 146 and 74 receiving yards, respectively. Collins is developing into a legitimate weapon downfield while Woods is a proven veteran who is capable of even better production.
Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (-9)
Regular season record: 1-1
The Jaguars couldn’t overcome the reigning Super Bowl champions in Week 2, as they suffered a 17-9 loss at home to the Kansas City Chiefs. Jacksonville’s offense stalled and came up with only 271 total yards and went just 3/12 on third downs.
But it can get better in Week 3 against the zero-win Texans, who are just 26th so far this season in the NFL in scoring defense with 28.0 points allowed per outing. Jacksonville’s defense can also take advantage of its lack of experience of Stroud in the league. Jaguars running back Travis Etienne did not finish the Chiefs game due to cramps, but that doesn’t seem to be an injury that will keep him out of Week 3’s matchup versus Houston, which gave up 126 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns in Week 2.
