A Racing Club de Avellaneda‘s fan dared to bring the skull of his late grandfather to the field for the semifinal of the Copa de la Liga Profesional against Boca Juniors.

Football lovers definitely have different ways of living their passion, especially Argentines.

It is well known throughout the world that Argentina is the country that lives soccer passion with the greatest intensity. The songs, the rags in the crowded stands and likewise the tokens for luck, or ‘cábalas’ as they are known in Argentina, are part of their lifestyle.

There are also those who decide to dye their hair with the colors of their team, or those who decide to tattoo the crest, or some date of a historical moment lived with their club. But there are also others who opt for other types of madness.

This is the case of an Argentinean fan of Racing who prior to his team’s Copa de la Liga Profesional semifinal against Boca Juniors not only wore his team’s jersey, but he also took the skull of his deceased grandfather.

Yes, you read that right, his grandfather’s skull.

Racing Fan and his Love for his Grandfather

The Racing fan was interviewed by ESPN and assured that his grandfather Valentín Aguilera would have wanted to be on the field. “He is my grandfather, Valentín Aguilera, a fan of Racing to death. Racing is my love and my grandfather too. He wanted to be here.”

The Argentine fan, in general, is as crazy as they come, crazy in love for his club, and there are no doubts about it. However, this Racing fan is not the only one who has done crazy things that have something to do with the deceased.

In February this year, at the “Cilindro”, the Racing field, ashes were scattered during the match against Argentinos Juniors, and the moment went viral after some attendees showed the evidence.

If the Racing fanatic who took his grandfather’s skull to the field did it for good luck, unfortunately it did not work for him, since ‘La Academia’ tied the game 0-0 in regulation time, but lost in the penalty shootout, and it was Boca Juniors whomade it to the final of the Copa de la Liga Profesional.

Let’s hope that, after taking him to witness that expected encounter, he can now rest in peace.
