Undoubtedly, Russel Wilson and Bobby Wagner’s departures ended the best era of the Seahawks abruptly, a team that will continue under Carroll’s leadership with more doubts than certainties.
The game against the Steelers will provide the first glimpse of Drew Lock, who came over from the Broncos for Wilson and is expected to be the starter at the position. He will compete with Geno Smith, who played in Seattle last season and could sneak through the ranks with a good preseason.
The problem is that the Seahawks have not reinforced their offensive line yet, and the defense is nowhere near that of the “Legion of Boom”, so the game against Pittsburgh will undoubtedly be a true first test for a team that does not aspire to much in the NFC West.

The Steelers’ quarterback situation is not very different from the Seahawks’. This first commitment will serve to see how Mitchell Trubisky, the main candidate to keep the job, and the first impressions of Kenny Pickett, the only QB to be taken this year in the first round of the Draft.
Pittsburgh’s defense also generates a lot of questions beyond having Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt with them. The linebacker can’t do the job alone, especially when we’re talking about a secondary that underperformed in 2021.
Measuring themselves against Lock or Smith will not be as difficult a challenge as what awaits them with other teams in the campaign, but it will serve to recharge their batteries.
