Soccer songs are far from being classified by genre, as more and more artists are creating or singing lyrics that talk about this sport. These are songs that make specific mention of some soccer players or simply use soccer terms to attract more audience. We are aware that some people prefer rock to reggaeton, or vice versa, and that there are also people who are versatile music lovers and don’t care who is singing, they just enjoy it.

Here we leave you with the top 5 soccer songs that you should listen to, and that may become your favorite songs for the pre-match of important games.

1.- Me gusta el fútbol – Melendi

We begin this list of soccer songs with one that can be considered an anthem of this sport.

The Spanish singer-songwriter, Melendi, has focused on pop and rumba when creating music, and, although his music has been more romantic lately, at some point in his life (2007), he dedicated a song to the love for soccer and titled it “Me gusta el fútbol” (I like soccer).

The lyrics refer to the fact that regardless of age, soccer fans organize themselves to enjoy their teams’ games and goals.

2.- El baile de la gambeta – Bersuit Vergarabat

On the album “La argentinidad al palo”, released in 2004, the Argentine rock band Bersuit Vergarabat presented the song “El baile de la gambeta”. The name makes reference to the sport with the word “gambeta”, which is used to name the movements of the soccer players with the ball in their legs, and that makes it part of the top 5 soccer songs.

The song itself doesn’t really talk about soccer, but it does use a lexicon that any soccer fan would understand when listening to it.

3.- Estadio Azteca – Andrés Calamaro

“Estadio Azteca” by Andrés Calamaro was released in 2004. The song is named after the massive Estadio Azteca, the stadium where Argentina’s National Team won its second World Cup with Diego Armando Maradona at the head.

Just by the name alone, you already associate it with soccer. And although the author himself said that it talks about soccer, it is not only about that: “It is a song that says much more than it seems. It talks about exile, death, soccer, fans, drugs; it’s about the heart we have and don’t have”, Calamaro said in an interview.

4.- La vida no es la misma sin fútbol – Joel Jauregui

This song appears in the top 5 soccer songs, and it’s quite possible that many didn’t have it on their radar. “La vida no es la misma sin fútbol” is a song by Mexican musician, Joel Jauregui. This song was part of a campaign by Televisa to promote one of the most popular sports programs.

This song refers to the passion that soccer fans experience.

5.- Fútbol y Rumba – Anuel AA y Enrique Iglesias

Anuel AA and Enrique Iglesias in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 released the song “Fútbol y rumba”. While the only thing about soccer is the name of the song, it still has a catchy beat and could be played at any title celebration, as it does focus a lot on partying. Anyway, keep it as one of the soccer songs, you might need it at some point.

Surely you have other soccer songs in mind, but in case any of these were not in your playlist, it’s time to add them.
