The Austrian GP will be held from July 8-10 at the Red Bull Ring, and it is expected to be an entertaining race, as it will feature the second sprint of the year.
This race will mark the halfway point of the 2022 Formula 1season, since after the Austrian GP there will be 10 more dates left to be contested. Red Bull and Ferrari are the teams that continue to compete directly in the Constructors’ Championship, and, although Mercedes are trying to get closer, they are still a long way off.
Rain could be present and make a difference in the Austrian GP, but there are other factors you should know beforehand that have to do with the teams and drivers.
Red Bull Wants to Go 1-2 at Home Grand Prix
Red Bull has done an outstanding job this F1 season and leads the Constructors’ Championship with 328 points. It should be remembered that the Austrian team only scored points in nine of the 10 races held, as both drivers were forced to retire in Bahrain, the first Grand Prix of the year.
Its two drivers have been solid on track, when there have been no failures in their cars, and it is expected that Max Verstappen and Checo Pérez can make the 1-2 in the local Grand Prix and continue to be at the top of the Drivers’ Championship.
Carlos Sainz Will Look For Continued Success With Ferrari
Ferrari has made some big mistakes this season so far, but they have also had some great successes, and perhaps the good outweighs the bad, as they are competing in the Constructors’ Championship.
Charles Leclerc has been doing well, but in the last Grand Prix, it was Carlos Sainz who surprised with pole position and victory at Silverstone, both for the first time since he has been in Formula 1. He is in fourth place in the championship and only 11 points behind his teammate, which could be a great motivation to look for another victory here.
Mercedes Wants Another Podium
Mercedes is in third place in the Constructors’ Championship with 204 points, yet it is the only team to have scored points in each of the 10 races so far.
At the British Grand Prix, George Russell traded points to help fellow competitor Guanyu Zhou when the latter suffered a bad accident. The British driver got out of the car and did not score points for the first time in 10 races. Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, got his third podium of the season, for the third time in third place, and will try to add one more at the Austrian GP, taking advantage of the fact that he has two in a row.
Guanyu Zhou to Race After Silverstone Accident
Guanyu Zhou will be able to race at the Austrian GP after escaping unscathed from the accident he suffered at Silverstone last week. The Chinese driver made last Sunday’s race suspenseful when his car spun out and overturned after several laps. Everyone expected the worst, but Zhou was saved by the halo of the single-seater and only went to the hospital for a medical evaluation.
The driver himself announced on his social networks that he is ready to return to the track for the Austrian GP.
Fernando Alonso Wants to Fight for Points
The one who arrives motivated to this Grand Prix is the Spaniard Fernando Alonso, who competes with the Alpine team. He has managed to be in the points in the last three races and prior to this race he stated that he wants to continue that streak.
“I want to keep scoring points in Austria, it’s a sprint qualifying weekend and I think the circuit is going to be good for this format.” He currently has 28 units and occupies the tenth position in the Drivers’ Championship.
