Carlos Acevedo entered the Mexican National Team at the last minute after Jonathan Orozco got injured.

The Santos Laguna goalkeeper will have a new opportunity to take part in the national team, despite not being one of the first options of coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino.

Martino released his roster last week where he included four experienced goalkeepers: Francisco Guillermo Ochoa, Alfredo Talavera, Rodolfo Cota, and Jonathan Orozco. However, on Sunday during the development of Matchday 11 of the Clausura 2022, the goalkeeper of the Xolos de Tijuana suffered an injury, apparently a muscular one, and set off the alarms in the Mexican National Team. Orozco felt some discomfort in his right back thigh, and the decision of the medical staff was to take him out of the game after playing only the first 45 minutes so as to perform studies.

The diagnosis, according to the medical report presented by Club Tijuana, was that Jonathan Orozco suffered from a muscle injury of the right femoral biceps.

This Monday the technical director of the Tricolor made it official that he would include Carlos Acevedo in the list to face the last three games of the World Cup Qualifiers towards Qatar 2022.

The goalkeeper returns to the “Tri” after having his debut in December 2021, when the Mexico National Team drew 2-2 against his counterpart from Chile.

It seems difficult for him to have minutes in this match considering that Guillermo Ochoa seems the undisputed starting player of the national squad, but at least he is within the group after some considered it unfair to leave him out after his good performances in Liga MX matches.

“Tata” Martino has leaned towards experience since all the goalkeepers he has summoned for this FIFA Date are over 35 years old. With Santos Laguna in this tournament he has played all 11 full matches and has conceded a total of 19 goals.

Carlos Acevedo will not be the only one who joins the concentration of the Mexican National Team in the High Performance Center (CAR), since Roberto Alvarado will also arrive this Monday to take the place of Rodolfo Pizarro who was injured at the weekend and will not be able to be at the disposal of “Tata”.

The Mexican National Team will host the United States this Thursday, March 24 at the Azteca Stadium in search of a victory that will allow them to secure the ticket to the Qatar 2022 World Cup. They will then have to travel to Honduras to face their penultimate CONCACAF Qualifying match on March 27. The “Tri” will have the opportunity to qualify to the World Cup as a local, facing El Salvador on March 30 at the Azteca Stadium.
