Adesanya is one confident man. He was recently asked about the threat level of Strickland in his mind and he said “three.” The Last Stylebender can say whatever he wants. After all, he’s the reigning champion who won his rematch against Alex Pereira via knockout last April to get the middleweight belt. Adesanya is an extremely dangerous striker even at age 34.
He has a total of 16 knockout victories. Adesanya’s 80-inch reach (four inches longer than Strickland’s) is a significant one plus he also has a three-inch leg reach advantage over the challenger. The Nigerian has the tools and the quickness to be a huge problem for Strickland. So long as he’s on his feet, Adesanya will mostly be fine, and he’s also shown the durability to win high-quality fights even without knocking people out, as evidenced by his victories over the likes of Jared Cannonier, Robert Whittaker, and Yoel Romero.

After losing consecutive fights against Pereira and Cannonier last year, Strickland managed to find his way to a title fight by scoring wins against Nassourdine Imavov last January via unanimous decision and Abus Magomedov via knockout last July. His win over Magomedov earned Strickland a Performance of the Night honors and a gateway to an eventual ticket to a showdown versus Adesanya.
The champion can play down Strickland all he wants, but he definitely knows better than to keep his guard down versus Tarzan. Strickland has an 11-2 knockout record and also appears to be the busier striker of the two. He is averaging 5.86 significant strikes landed per minute to just 3.94 by Adesanya.
