Coach Miguel Herrera is being investigated by the FMF for lashing out at the refereeing after Tigres lost 2-0 against Necaxa.
It is obvious that no one like losing, because human beings are competitive by nature, especially when it comes to sports. One of the most competitive and controversial coaches in these situations is Miguel Herrera, who throughout his career as a coach has been known for his constant criticism of refereeing, as he has repeatedly felt he has been wronged, regardless of the team he is managing at the time.
The Tigres coach went to the press conference after Tuesday’s loss and presented himself with a laptop to review a play in which the refereeing body, according to him, disadvantaged his club.
For Miguel Herrera, the Uruguayan Rodrigo Aguirre’s goal should have been disallowed because the player was in an offside position. “If it (the offside) is flagged, the match goes on. I don’t demerit Necaxa’s work. This happens because you endure a play like the first goal and it changes the whole panorama.” said the coach.
The “Piojo” was harsh with his criticism. He made reference to the refereeing errors throughout the campaign, despite the existence of video assistance: “This is a TV shot. It should also be in the VAR. They get angry when we do it using these means. In every match there is a play, a certain situation and we are the ones who always suffer. We, the coaches, are the ones who lose their jobs. I have not seen any referees being fired. And I know I’m going to be fined, that’s fine, I’ll face it, but this undoubtedly changed the game”.
What sanction would Miguel Herrera receive?
His statements were echoed in the Mexican Soccer Federation (FMF) and an investigation was opened against the Tigres coach, since the regulations establish that: “Any Affiliate and/or any person subject to these Regulations who makes public statements that imply harm, disparagement, defamation or offense to the FMF or to persons who hold honorary or remunerated positions in the same, Clubs, Players, Members of the Technical Staff, Referees, Managers, Officials and/or any other affiliate of the FMF, will be sanctioned by the Disciplinary Commission”.
Miguel Herrera could be punished with a one-match suspension, so he would not be able to coach his players for the match against his former team, América, but there would also be a financial penalty of up to $900,000 Mexican pesos, approximately $45 thousand dollars.
The Monterrey team, with its recent defeat, moved away from the top of the overall standings, with 32 points and second place behind Pachuca, who has 35 points.
This Saturday, April 23, they will face the Águilas del América at the Estadio Universitario, and even if they lose this match, they will remain in second place, since Puebla is in third place with 26 points.
