With less than a month to go before the start of the 2022-23 American football season, the odds are already stacking up in Las Vegas and, in this edition, JefeBet brings you the betting favorites to finish as the NFL’s sack leader of the upcoming campaign.
Predictions, Picks, and Betting Preview for the Sack Leader Race in the NFL 2022-23 Season
10.- Maxx Crosby (+1800)
Team | Age | Sacks in the previous season |
Las Vegas Raiders | 24 | 8 |
The Raiders’ linebacker will be one of the headaches this defense will give opposing quarterbacks. In 49 NFL games, Maxx Crosby has 25 catches, including 10 in his rookie year, when he finished second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting. While the pieces in Las Vegas will be much more spread out this season, the 24-year-old has the talent to be among the leaders in the category.
9.- Khalil Mack (+1600)
Team | Age | Sacks in the previous season |
Los Angeles Chargers | 31 | 6 |
Over the last decade, Khalil Mack can be considered one of the top five defensive players in the league, hands down.
The Chargers’ new linebacker comes to a team that completely beefed up its defensive line and is surely ready to reminisce about those old days when in 2015 he finished second in the league in catches leader with 15 and in 2016 he won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. For life? 76.5 catches in 117 games.
8.- Chandler Jones (+1600)
Team | Age | Sacks in the previous season |
Las Vegas Raiders | 32 | 10.5 |
Another great defensive back who makes our list is Chandler Jones, the Raiders’ new acquisition who will team up with Maxx Crosby to be the bane of opposing quarterbacks.
Twice, the linebacker has been among the top three defensive backs of the year and already knows what it’s like to be a leader in NFL sacks when in the 2017 campaign, in a Cardinals uniform, he got 17 of the 107.5 that he has registered in his great career in the circuit.
7.- Danielle Hunter (+1400)
Team | Age | Sacks in the previous season |
Minnesota Vikings | 27 | 6 |
In 2022, Danielle Hunter will be looking to get back to the great pace she had in her career before a couple of injuries that have seen her play just seven games in the last two years.
The Minnesota Vikings defensive wing totaled 14.5 in both 2018 and 2019 to finish fourth in the category in each, so now recovered he is expected to be back among the leaders and fighting for the top spot in the upcoming NFL season.
6.- Joey Bosa (+1400)
Team | Age | Sacks in the previous season |
Los Angeles Chargers | 27 | 10.5 |
The former 2016 Defensive Rookie of the Year is projected to have another good season in a retooled defense with Khalil Mack as a partner in his efforts to catch opposing QBs. In four of his six seasons in the circuit, Joey Bosa finished with at least 10 sacks, while he has a total of 58 in just 79 games played.
5.- Nick Bosa (+1400)
Team | Age | Sacks in the previous season |
San Francisco 49ers | 24 | 15.5 |
The Bosa family has another member among the candidates to finish as the NFL sacks leader in 2022 with the presence of 49ers defensive end Nick.
The 24-year-old, like his brother, earned Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2019 and had his best catching performance last season, collecting 15.5 catches, the fourth-highest total in the league. With another year of experience Nick has the quality and conditions to fight for the title.
4.- Trey Hendrickson (+1200)
Team | Age | Sacks in the previous season |
Cincinnati Bengals | 27 | 14 |
Over the years Trey Hendrickson has raised his level of play and after three seasons off the radar of the best in the circuit, in his last two seasons he has been a real nightmare for opponents.
The defensive wing was vital last season to the Bengals’ run to the Super Bowl and after totaling just 6.5 catches between 2017-2019, between 2020 and 2021 he recorded a total of 27.5.
3.- Aaron Donald (+1200)
Team | Age | Sacks in the previous season |
Los Angeles Rams | 31 | 12.5 |
Well, what to say about Aaron Donald. The Rams’ defensive wing should always be in these discussions due to his impressive quality on the gridiron. In his first NFL season he won Defensive Rookie of the Year and in the following seven seasons he always finished in the top five of the Defensive Player of the Year, an award he won on three of those occasions.
He finished 2018 as the NFL sacks leader with 20.5, while recording at least 10 catches in six of eight seasons in the league, five in a row.
2.- T.J. Watt (+700)
Team | Age | Sacks in the previous season |
Pittsburgh Steelers | 27 | 22.5 |
Considered the best linebacker in the NFL today, T.J. Watt has every reason to finish his third consecutive season as the NFL sacks leader. It is indeed strange to see that the Steelers’ defender is not first in the Las Vegas betting odds, although the margin is extremely small.
The 2021 Defensive Player of the Year tied last season’s record for most catches in a year by recording 22.5, while in 2020 he led the circuit with a total of 15. In his career he has 72 in 77 games, almost a catch per game. Incredible!
1.- Myles Garrett, DE (+650)
Team | Age | Sacks in the previous season |
Cleveland Browns | 26 | 16 |
Myles Garrett leads Las Vegas betting odds to take the catching title from T.J. Watt. The Browns’ outstanding defensive end has four consecutive seasons with at least 10 catches to his credit, while collecting 58.5 in 68 career games played.
That consistency, as well as Cleveland’s defensive improvement for 2022, could open the door for him to earn one of the most important leads for a defensive player in the NFL.
