On Monday night, the Dallas Cowboys will have a very important commitment when they visit the New York Giants in the NFL’s Monday Night Football for the third week of the championship.
Despite losing Dak Prescott to a fractured right thumb, the Cowboys came out of a tough matchup last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, and against their division rivals could climb into the NFC East lead with a win.
The Giants have been one of the pleasant surprises at the beginning of the season, winning their first two games thanks to a very good defense and wise decisions by new head coach Brian Daboll. So it won’t be easy for Dallas to get a win despite having won nine of the last ten meetings between the two organizations.
In the Week 2 championship the Cowboys took a 20-17 win over Cincinnati to even their record at 1-1, while the Giants held off the Panthers with a 19-16 slate and remain undefeated at 2-0.
Predictions, odds, and betting preview for the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3 of the 2022 NFL season
Moneyline (-105 from BetMGM)
While Cooper Rush assumes the offensive leadership role in hopes that Prescott can return before Week 6, the Cowboys will depend on what their defense can do, just as they did in the game against the Bengals to whom they conceded only 254 total yards.
Of course, the defense also depends on what Rush and the rest of the team can do. The Giants haven’t scored more than 21 points this season and if the defense can hold them to that limit, the offense has an obligation to get the lanes to carburize, although New York is stopping opponents very well in 2022.
Spread (+1.0 from BetMGM)
This spread is minimal. The game is likely to be quite close with good defensive performances, but only one of the last ten games between the two has been defined by a point.
The detail is that if we look at more statistics, the Cowboys have a 4-1 record playing against the spread in the last five games in New York, while the favorite has a 7-3 record playing against the spread in the last ten clashes.
Over/Under (39 from BetMGM)
Although both teams’ defenses have not allowed more than 20 points in the whole season, it is quite risky to play the under with such a low total.
Of course, the lack of offense of these two attacks is very striking and does not seem to be solved overnight, but in the last seven games between the two, the Over has occurred on five occasions.
Dallas Cowboys Future Odds after Week 2
Over/Under wins in the season: Over 8.5 (-100 from BetMGM) / Under 8.5 (-120 from BetMGM)
The Cowboys’ schedule this season is far from easy and three of their next four games, including this one against the Giants, will be away games. The other two? Against the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles, no less.
If his recovery continues, Prescott could return for the game against Philadelphia, but it still looks difficult for the Cowboys to reach nine wins. In weeks 10 and 11 they must visit the Packers and Vikings back-to-back, while in week 15 they go to Jacksonville and finish the season at the home of the Tennessee Titans and Washington Commanders. With the exception of the latter and the Jaguars matchup, all the others look quite complex.
By winning those two and six of the seven remaining home games, Dallas could reach nine wins.
Cowboys win NFC East (+550 from BetMGM)
The great start by Eagles and Giants put a lot of pressure on the Cowboys’ aspirations to win the division for the third time in the last five seasons. Prescott’s injury made everything much more complicated and a loss to New York could be very tough despite being only in the third week of action.
Philadelphia has looked very good. They were Dallas’ main rival prior to the start of 2022 and will have to meet, for the first time, in Week 6. The same one in which Prescott could return from his fractured right thumb.
Cowboys win NFC Conference (+2000 from BetMGM)
Although Dallas dropped from (+2200) to (+2000) thanks to its win against the Bengals, the strong schedule and the team’s performance so far, especially on offense, makes it very difficult to project coach Mike McCarthy’s team as a possible favorite to win the AFC over the Rams, Buccaneers or Packers.
Cowboys win Super Bowl (+4000 from BetMGM)
As for their potential Super Bowl win, Dallas needs Prescott to get healthy as soon as possible if they want to have a modicum of hope. Defense will play an important role, but without offense the Cowboys will not be able to beat either the NFC powerhouses or AFC favorites like the Bills, Chiefs or Chargers.
Micah Parsons wins DPOY (+350 from BetMGM)
After Prescott’s painful injury, the leading candidate to take one of the NFL’s elite awards this season is linebacker Micah Parsons. The young defender, who won Defensive Rookie of the Year last season, is having a very impressive start to 2022 and leads the circuit in catches with 4.0.
He is also number one in tackles for a loss of yardage with four, while totaling seven hits on the opposing quarterback. More than enough reason to be the number one favorite in Las Vegas for the Defensive Player of the Year award.
