Sergio Checo Pérez is happy with his work with Red Bull Racing after running three races in this 2022 season. However, he is not fully satisfied as he assured that he will be looking for more. The Mexican driver had his best participation in last year’s Formula 1 season with the Austrian team as he finished fourth in the Drivers’ Championship and was a vital element in helping his teammate Max Verstappenwin the World Championship.

Now, he expects this current season to be even better. Checo Pérez scored his first podium of the season at the Australian GP, where he finished second behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and ahead of Mercedes driver George Russell. However, for the Guadalajara native this is not enough, and he will try to get podiums in each of the following races.

“It was a mixed few days in Australia for the team, but for me I managed another consistent weekend, after my pole and fourth place in Jeddah. I’m pleased with the way I’ve been performing so far and getting on the podium for the first time this season in Melbourne was a step in the right direction, but I won’t stop there, I need and want to be there on a weekly basis for the team and for myself.”

In view of this, Checo Pérez hopes to have a good weekend in Italy, despite the rain forecast, as he said he wants to improve in every aspect.

“That all comes from a good qualifying on Friday, and I hope to plug back in in Italy. It looks like it could rain this weekend, so that will play a role and I want to learn from the performance I had at Imola in the wet last season and continue to improve in all areas.”

How Did Checo Pérez Fare at the Emilia-Romagna GP?

Last year, already in the Austrian team’s seat, the Mexican driver managed to start from second position in the Emilia-Romagna GP, but he had a race to forget as he could not stay in podium position and finished the race in 11th place, and did not get any points.

This weekend’s test for Checo Pérez will be the Emilia-Romagna GP at the Autódromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. The Mexican will try to face the Maranello team, which has been showing a wide dominance so far this season.

Leclerc currently leads the drivers’ standings with 71 points, followed by Mercedes’ George Russell of Great Britain and third place goes to the other Ferrari driver, Carlos Sainz. On the other hand, Checo Pérez is in fourth place with 30 points, being the best classified Red Bull driver, since his teammate, the Dutch Max Verstappen, has suffered two retirements and has only scored the 25 points that the victory in the Saudi Arabian GP gave him, so Max is in sixth place currently.

When it comes to the Constructors’ Championship, Ferrari is in the lead with 104 points, followed by Mercedes with 65, while Red Bull is third with 55 points.
