Deebo Samuel seems to have reconsidered and re-joined activities with the 49ers, after refusing to participate in organized team activities, known as OTAs.
The receiver, Deebo Samuel, generated controversy during this offseason in the NFL, as he asked the San Francisco franchise to be traded. He never explained why he wanted to switch teams in the final year of his rookie contract, but the question of his consistency lingered until this Tuesday.
Samuel decided to skip the team’s activities, and it was unclear whether he would stick to that decision until the mandatory mini-training camp, despite the fact that he would be fined if he did not show up.
That doubt was cleared up this Tuesday, June 7, when The Athletic reporter, Matt Barrows, notified on his Twitter account that the receiver was back with the 49ers. Barrows clarified that, although he showed up, the player was not wearing his uniform.
The reporter also shared a video of what the catcher did in the first session of the mini-training camp.
Rumors indicated that some teams inquired about Deebo Samuel after he himself asked to leave the organization, but the 49ers did not want to accept any of the offers they received in exchange for the player.
This appearance could indicate that negotiations have already taken place to fix any situation that has upset the recipient. Another who appeared after skipping the OTAs was Nick Bosa, who is looking for a contract extension.
On the other hand, the most noticeable absentee in this first session was the quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, who continues with his rehabilitation after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Deebo Samuel Still Is With the 49ers
The 26-year-old, who was selected in the second round of the 2019 Draft with the 36th overall pick, is in the final year of his contract with the 49ers, earning a salary of $3.9 million.
Deebo Samuel had a brilliant 2021 season, recording 77 receptions for 1,770 yards and 14 touchdowns. The player seems to be in good shape, but it is too early to know if he is convinced enough to continue with the 49ers after seeking his exit.
