With the 49ers trading away Trey Lance and giving the chief backup quarterback role to Sam Darnold, it is clear that Brock Purdy is the No. 1 man under center for San Francisco. Purdy was a revelation for the Niners in 2022 when he took over as the team’s starter after injuries to Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo.
He passed for ,1374 yards and 13 touchdowns with four interceptions in nine games. A full season with running back Christian McCaffrey is also soon to start for the 49ers. The do-it-all McCaffrey is a dangerous weapon on the ground and through the air. Meanwhile, the 49ers’ defense that dominated in 2022 still has the top guys in the fold. San Francisco was No. 1 in the NFL last season with just 17.2 points allowed per game and second with only 299.7 total yards surrendered per contest.

Never underestimate the Steelers. They are one of the most consistent franchises in the NFL. Under Mike Tomlin, the Steelers have not had a losing season in nearly two decades. Last season, they went 9-8.
But the Steelers should be better this year, as they enter Year 2 of Kenny Pickett, who is the clear No. 1 quarterback option for Pittsburgh after splitting work in 2022 with Mitchell Trubisky. With running back Najee Harris and wide receivers Diontae Johnson and George Pickens, Pickett has the weapons to inflict damage on the Niners defense. Speaking of defense, Pittsburgh’s stop unit is not too shabby either with linebacker TJ Watt leading the crew.
