Betting on the Cincinnati Bengals (-1.5)
Regular season record: 0-0
The health of Joe Burrow is the biggest talking point about the Bengals entering the new season, Burrow suffered a lower-body injury in the offseason, thus putting his availability in Week 1’s game againt the Cleveland Browns in jeopardy. If he gets ultimately ruled out, Burrow will have his spot temporarily filled by Trevor Siemian most likely. With or without Burrow, the Bengals’ offense should contend, as they still have the pair of running back Joe Mixon and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. Back in 2022, Cincinnati was seventh in the NFL with 25.7 points per game and seventh with 257.9 passing yards per game. An absence from Burrow could increase the usage and touches of Mixon, who had 96 rushing yards in the last meeting with the Browns (Week 14 of 2022) which the Bengals won, 23-10 at home.
The Bengals are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games in the regular season.
Betting on the Cleveland Browns (+1.5)
Regular season record: 0-0
The time has finally come for the Browns to enjoy a full season with Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback. Watson returned to NFL action in 2022 but he was far from the elite level he was in during his Houston Texans days.
This time around, Watson is more prepared and with fewer distractions, so that’s a big plus for the Browns. Last season, Cleveland averaged 21.2 points per game — good for only 17th in the NFL. Even with Watson, the Browns will make sure that running back Nick Chubb is well fed in the backfield. Chubb was incredible in 2022, rushing for 1,525 yards and 12 touchdowns on 302 carries. It should also be mentioned that the Browns own a 5-0 straight-up record in their last five games as the home team versus Cincinnati, dating back to 2018.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Cincinnati Bengals vs Cleveland Browns
