Betting on the Buffalo Bills (-1)
Preseason record: 1-1
The Bills got tripped up last week by the rampaging Pittsburgh Steelers in a 27-15 loss on the road. However, Buffalo is not winless in the 2023 preseason, as it beat the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1 at home, 23-19. The Bills have won eight of their last 10 preseason games. They have also covered the spread in eight of their last 10 August games, dating back to 2019.
Josh Allen saw action in the Steelers game, passing for 64 yards on 7/10 completions, while Kyle Allen went 12/15 for 112 passing yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions. Buffalo was doomed in that game in part of the 13 penalties it was called for. That’s something the Bills will have to clean up if they are to beat Chicago. If they can cut down on their errors, the Bills should have more success finishing drives as the team is already averaging 343.5 total yards per contest in the preseason.
Betting on the Chicago Bears (+1)
Preseason record: 1-1
Like the Bills, the Bears are also coming off a loss in Week 2, as Chicago fell prey to the Colts on the road, 24-17. Chicago was actually looking good heading into the fourth quarter in that game but got outscored in the final period, 17-7. Despite the loss, the were some encouraging signs for the Bears.
Take for example quarterback Tyson Bagent, who went 9/10 for 76 passing yards. Wide receiver Daurice Fountain, also made heads turn with his performance, grabbing five of six targets for 86 receiving yards and a touchdown. Justin Fields is not expected to see action in the preseason finale, but the Bears could continue to have fun deploying Bagent, who is also the NCAA’s all-time passing touchdowns leader.
The Bears are 4-1 against the spread in their last five preseason games.
