Betting on the Buffalo Bills (+2.5)
Preseason record: 1-0
The Bills looked alright in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL preseason, as they came through with a 23-19 home win over the Indianapolis Colts. Perhaps there was not a more comforting sight for the Bills and their fans in that game than Damar Hamlin showing out and recording three tackles. Hamlin’s impact on Buffalo goes well beyond what the box scores will tell, and he’s hoping he can continue being an inspiration for the Bills, who have won nine of their last 10 preseason games, dating back to 2019. The Bills are also 9-1 against the spread in those games.
Matt Barkley provided steady quarterbacking for Buffalo against the Colts, as he went 14/15 for 172 passing yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions. Barkley is a veteran, so it won’t be surprising to see him do well again this week. “I’m not gonna say how you’re gonna interpret something. But the fact is, I’ve been here longer so naturally, I’m going to have a better understanding of everything,” Barkley told reporters after the Colts game (via AP).
Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (-2.5)
Preseason record: 1-0
Pittsburgh found success on the road and scooped up a 27-17 victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1. Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett both did a good job steering the offense on the field. Rudolph passed for 132 yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 7/12 completions, while Pickett, who will be the team’s regular season starter, had 70 passing yards and a touchdown on 6/7 completions. The Steelers are now undefeated in all of their last four preseason games. They have also covered the spread in all of those outings.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was left impressed by the performance of the team and he looks forward to seeing the same quality of play in Week 2. “I thought we saw some things we wanted to see,” Tomlin said, per the Associated Press. Defensively, the Steelers hope to bottle up Buffalo after recording four sacks and forcing two turnovers in the Tampa Bay game.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Buffalo Bills vs Pittsburgh Steelers
The Bills’ offense is in the good hands of Barkley. Taking Buffalo to outlast the Steelers in a close contest.
