Betting on the Denver Broncos (-4)
Preseason record: 0-1
The Broncos led their game last week against the Arizona Cardinals on the road 10-0 before their starters got replaced by the backups. The result was an 18-17 loss that Denver will look to recover from this coming weekend. The Broncos are 5-5 against the spread in their last 10 preseason games.
Russell Wilson saw minimal action and went 7/13 for a touchdown and 93 passing yards. If the regular starters are to play early again for the Broncos, that’s going to be great for them but they definitely will want to see more of what they have in the backups. That means Ben DiNucci and Jarrett Stidham will be there on the field again. Denver could have more success moving the chains this time around, as it will be facing San Francisco’s defense that just got tattered in Week 1, allowing the Las Vegas Raiders to go 4/4 in the red zone.
Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (+4)
Preseason record: 0-1
The 49ers are still undecided about who between Trey Lance and Sam Darnold will be the top quarterback of Brock Purdy. Lance went 10/15 for 112 passing yards and a touchdown in last week’s 34-7 road loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, while Darnold had 84 passing yards on 5/8 completions. Look for the battle between the two to continue in Week 2 against the Broncos, but the Niners’ offensive line will also have to step up.
Lance was sacked four times for a loss of 18 yards in the Raiders game, while the Niners’ ground attack mustered just 69 rushing yards on 23 carries. Lance, however, led the 49ers to a scoring drive, finding tight end Ross Dwelley for the team’s only TD of the contest. Wide receiver Ronnie Bell, meanwhile, led San Francisco with 58 receiving yards on three catches and six targets. The Niners are 3-2 against the spread in their last five preseason games.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Denver Broncos vs San Francisco 49ers
Expect a steadier play from the 49ers against the Broncos, who might dial it back a bit with their usage of their starters. Taking the Niners to win this game.
Prediction:
The 49ers win, 20-17.
