Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+2.5)
Regular season record: 3-4
The Buccaneers won three of their first four games of the season. They were about the early surprises of 2023. That seemed like so long ago now, though, as Tampa Bay has gone 0-3 since coming out of a bye in Week 5. In their most recent game, the Buccaneers lost to the Buffalo Bills on the road, 24-18. Making it worse for Tampa Bay is that quarterback Baker Mayfield is not feeling 100 percent.
He is listed questionable for Week 9’s game versus the Texans because of a left knee issue. However, it appears that he is going to play regardless. Meanwhile, Chris Godwon and Mike Evans are still one of the most dangerous 1-2 combos downfield in the NFL, and they just both scored a touchdown versus Buffalo, so there’s definitely momentum going for them heading into a date with the Texans.
Betting on the Houston Texans (-2.5)
Regular season record: 3-4
The Texans got greeted with a 15-13 loss at the hands of the Carolina Panthers on the road in Houston’s first game since a bye in Week 7. That could be partly attributed to a rust build-up following a week away from action, so expect CJ Stroud and the Texans to play better in Week 9 against the Bucks, who are seemingly on a downward spiral.
Stroud is still figuring out the NFL, but he’s already got nine passing touchdowns and only an interception under his name so far in his first season in the pros. Houston’s ball security this season has been elite as well, as evidenced by their being No. 1 in the league after eight weeks with just 0.6 giveaways per contest.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Houston Texans
The Buccaneers are a mess at the moment, but they find a way to cover the spread on the road. In fact, they are 3-0 against the spread in games in enemy territories so far in the 2023 NFL season. Taking Tampa Bay to win and cover.
Prediction:
The Buccaneers win, 24-21.
