Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+6)
Regular season record: 0-0
Tom Brady is gone. With the legend no longer around, the Buccaneers have decided to turn to Baker Mayfield for their starting quarterbacking needs. This is Mayfield’s third chance at a regular starting gig in the NFL. The former Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers starter beat out Kyle Trask in the offseason for the QB1 role, and he’ll have some great weapons to work with, particularly the pair of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
Going from Brady to Mayfield lowers the ceiling of Tampa Bay’s offense, but the Vikings’ defense might still be leaky enough to get exposed even by the seemingly mediocre Bucs offense. Last season, Minnesota was third-worst in the NFL with 25.4 pointrs allowed per game.
Betting on the Minnesota Vikings (-6)
Regular season record: 0-0
The Vikings lost some major offensive weapons over the offseason. Gone are running back Dalvin Cook and wide receiver Adam Thielen. However, Minnesota’s offense is still a threat to any team.
Alexander Mattison takes over the RB1 role of Cook, and one thing about Mattison is that he used to be one of the best backups in the NFL when Cook was still in Minnesota, and now he gets the chance to shine as a starter. And then there’s wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who is arguably not just the best in his position but perhaps the most lethal offensive weapon in the entire league. Last season, Jefferson exploded for 1,809 receiving yards as Kirk Cousins’ chief weapon downfield.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings will win this game with their high-flying offense. Tampa Bay shoots itself in the foot with inconsistencies and errors on its own offense.
Prediction:
The Vikings win, 27-14.
