Betting on the Indianapolis Colts (+1)
Regular season record: 0-1
The Colts lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, 31-21, at home, which was also the official debut game in the NFL of Indianapolis quarterback Anthony Richardson. The rookie had a strong performance despite the loss, passing for 223 yards and a touchdown with an interception on 24/37 completions. He also led the team with 40 rushing yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
If that is how he played in his first game regular season game, Colts fans can expect better in Week 2, granted that he’s going to be 100% healthy. Richardson exited the Jags game late with a lower-body injury, though, he said it was just a bruise and that he should be okay. Apart from Richardson, the Colts can feel confident about wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. who had 97 receiving yards and a touchdown on eight catches and 11 targets in Week 1. He appears to already have great chemistry with Richardson.
Betting on the Houston Texans (-1)
Regular season record: 0-1
The Texans are also coming off a loss in Week 1, as CJ Stroud and company fell prey to the Baltimore Ravens on the road, 25-9. Stroud struggled in his first regular season game in the NFL, going 28/44 for 242 passing yards with zero touchdowns. While he avoided getting picked, he got sacked five times for a loss of 46 yards.
Some growing pains can still be expected for Stroud, and the same thing can be said of the Colts’ first-year quarterback. It won’t be the most surprising thing to see Richardson have his first bad game in the NFL this coming Sunday against the Texans, whose defense recorded four sacks and an interception and forced two fumbles in Week 1.
