Betting on the Washington Commanders (+3.5)
Regular season record: 1-0
There is a lot of work left to do for their offense, but even then, the Commanders came away with a 20-16 home win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. Sam Howell passed for 202 yards and a touchdown with an interception on 19/31 completions.
He is still a work in progress, but he’s shown enough to warrant more chances under center. Until he becomes more reliable, Washington will continue to heavily rely on its defense which was fantastic in the Arizona game. The Cardinals generated only 210 total yards and committed two turnovers. Plus, they went just 4/14 on third downs. That’s the kind of defense that looks like trouble for the Broncos, who appear to still be struggling to move the chains and put points on the board despite hiring a new head coach.
Betting on the Denver Broncos (-3.5)
Regular season record: 0-1
The Broncos scored just 16 points in their loss to the Las Vegas Raiders at home in Week 1, but Wilson still showed some improvement under Payton. Wilson passed for 177 yards and two touchdowns on 27/34 completions, while the team’s ground attack recorded 94 rushing yards on 22 carries. Help could be on the way for Denver’s offense, though, as star wide receiver Jerry Jeudy seems nearing returning.
Jeudy missed the Raiders game due to a hamstring issue but was said to be very close to playing in Week 1 – a good sign for his chances to appear on the field this Sunday. If Jeudy returns, Washington’s defense can get stretched especially when he gets paired up with Courtland Sutton, who had 32 receiving yards and a touchdown on four receptions and five catches against Las Vegas.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Washington Commanders vs Denver Broncos
The Broncos will do just enough on offense to get a win and a cover, as their defense will take care of Washington’s already anemic attack.
Prediction:
The Broncos win, 24-16.
