Lions capture first win of the season by defeating the Commanders in a 36-27 points battle, while the Vikings were unable to win as visitors against the Eagles and were defeated 24-7. Betting on the Detroit Lions
- Regular Season Record: 1-1
- Spread: +6.0
- Unibet Moneyline: (+205)
- Over/Under: 53.5 Points
If there’s one thing the Lions can be happy about this season, it’s that their offense has performed flawlessly after scoring 71 points in the first two 2022 games.
Quarterback Jared Goff has been responsible for that strong performance and against the Commanders he threw four touchdowns and 256 yards without an interception. Amon-Ra St. Brown also helped after leading the team in yards on the ground and through the air, so Detroit comes in emboldened to take on a good Minnesota defense.
But that’s exactly what the Lions lack: defense. Detroit conceded 65 points in the first two weeks and opponents have totaled at least 395 total yards against them. While the Vikings only scored seven points against Philadelphia, their offense features one of the league’s best receivers in Justin Jefferson, while Delvin Cook is a threat on the ground.
Betting on the Minnesota Vikings
- Regular Season Record: 1-1
- BetMGM Spread: -6.0
- Moneyline: (-250)
- Over/Under: 53.5 Points
After a great opening day win over the Packers, the Vikings were thoroughly outplayed on Monday by the Eagles’ defense, which allowed only seven points.
The offensive trident of Kirk Cousins, Jefferson and Cook looked inoperative against a Philadelphia team that allowed only 264 total yards and intercepted the veteran QB three times. Against Detroit, they have a good chance to redeem themselves considering that their defense is averaging 425 total yards allowed in the first two weeks.
On the defensive side of the ball, things did not go well for Minnesota either, who could not stop the great performance of QB Jalen Hurts, who finished, between air and ground, with 390 yards. That performance will have to improve and resemble the one they had in Week 1 against the Packers if they don’t want Jared Goff and company to surprise them at home.
JefeBet Prediction
Sunday’s matchup has all the makings of a points battle even though the Under has occurred in eight of the last nine games in Minnesota. Detroit’s offense is having a good moment and while the Vikings’ defense is better than they showed against the Eagles, the Lions will surely score some points.
For their part, it looks complicated that Detroit’s defense can stop Minnesota’s trident as well as Philadelphia’s did. The Lions have conceded 65 points in two games and Justin Jefferson will not be stopped in his tracks for the second week in a row, let alone at home.
Prediction: Over (DET 30 – MIN 34).
