Betting on the Philadelphia Eagles (-5)
Regular season record: 2-0
One thing about the Eagles going into this Week 3 matchup against Tampa Bay is that they are very well rested. Their Week 2 34-28 home win over the Minnesota Vikings was a Thursday Night Football special and their meeting with the Buccaneers will be on a Monday. That’s so much rest for Jalen Hurts and company, who are still undefeated, by the way.
Hurts did not look so sharp in the pocket in the Vikings game, passing for 193 yards with a touchdown and an interception on 18/23 completions, but D’Andre Swift made sure that did not matter, as the running back went off for 175 rushing yards and a touchdown on 28 carries. That’s 6.3 yards per rushing attempt despite a heavy workload. Plus, Hurts added two rushing touchdowns. Overall, Philly rushed for 259 yards and three touchdowns. With an effective rushing attack and perhaps a looming breakout of Hurts’ passing prowess, the Eagles are expected to be more than a handful to deal with for Tampa Bay.
Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+5)
Regular season record: 2-0
The Buccaneers must be surprising even their fans. Not many expected them to be 2-0 after a couple of weeks in the 2023 NFL regular season, but Baker Mayfield is looking like a miracle worker at the moment. In their last game, Mayfield passed for 317 yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 26/34 completions.
His job gets easier this season because of the brilliance downfield of wide receiver Mike Evans, who already has 237 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 12 receptions after two games. Mayfield, Evans, and Chris Godwin will look to take advantage of Philly’s defense which is just 31st this season with 326.0 passing yards allowed per game. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay’s defense might be the one to slow down the Eagles’ ground game, as the Buccaneers are only letting 54.0 rushing yards per contest, so far this year.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Philadelphia Eagles vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Both teams are hot, but this could be the game where the Buccaneers get exposed and not the other way around. Taking the Eagles to win and cover.
Prediction:
The Eagles win, 27-20.
